Tragic Discovery The young boy's parents found his body in his bedroom at his Flintshire residence on 19 November 2021. Untrue Allegations Begin The investigation learned how his parent got a communication on 8 November 2021 via social media, from a woman inquiring if her son was her child. The communication added: "Tell him thanks for breaking into my apartment." In a testimony read to the court, the mother said the woman had been in the media, asserting her infant's remains had been taken in a burglary - a allegation which was false. Law Enforcement Investigation An official inquiry from police later concluded the supposed burglary complainant had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that said items was never taken in the first place". Media reports about the supposed taken ashes attracted online comments, and although the teenager was not named in the messages, his parent said people "understood it was him". The "social media content were really upsetting", she said. Mental Health Effect She explained that Kai had been diagnosed with mild ADHD, and as part of that condition, other individuals' views genuinely mattered to him. "This must have hurt him deeply," she said, "especially when this was untrue". Kai was detained at home, but no evidence was discovered. He was taken to a police station and later freed under investigation. Authorities said they would be in touch, the inquest learned, but had not reached out to the family by the time of his passing. Withdrawal and Anxiety His parent said Kai "became isolated" after the arrest and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had heard anything from the police", because his ADHD meant sometimes "a minute could seem like much longer". When she spoke to him about the supposed incident, she said her child informed her he had gone into the residence because the resident who resided there had said he could utilize the toilet anytime he wanted, but refuted removing anything. Online Harassment In a joint statement between her and her husband, the mother said her child was being harassed online after the accusations. The proceedings heard that a young adult urged the teenager to kill himself. She had no worries on the evening before he passed away, describing how she had listened to him "chuckling and joking". She described him as a "caring, loving" young man, and said her "family is totally shattered". He had been "obviously hiding his concerns", she stated, noting that he could not stand to have anyone "have negative thoughts of him". Educational Reaction The inquest heard from educational staff at the local secondary school. On 8 November, she "heard some students discussing that the student had been arrested and that was the first I heard". "He informed me... he'd was innocent," she added. After the conversation, the staff member said she rang Kai's family telephone and left a message saying she had communicated to Kai about the accusations. The court heard his family said they never got that communication. Official Finding Lead investigator informed the inquest he would wait for documents regarding what enhancements had been made to dealing with individuals with ADHD, before determining whether he should make a prevention of subsequent deaths report. Delivering a narrative finding, he stated: "Around November 8th, 2021, unsupported allegations were made against the teenager, a 14-year-old child. "Probably falsehoods were afterwards embellished and amplified through the platform of social media. "On 11 November, he was interviewed by the police and following his interview he was released while investigations proceeded." The coroner determined: "Exists no evidence that the actions or failures of any organization caused or added to his passing and although it was the result of a personal act it is not possible to discern his intent."
